HOKE, MRS. AMANDA
DIES AT HER HOME NEAR PARADISE
MRS. AMANDA HOKE, 83 years old, one of the best-known women of Bullskin township, died yesterday at her home near Paradise Church, after three months of serious illness. She was the widow of ABRAHAM HOKE, who died 15 years ago.
MRS. HOKE was born across the line in Westmoreland county not far from her home on February 4, 1849, a daughter of DANIEL and AMANDA SHUPE. She had been a resident of the locality all her life. She was a member of the First Reformed church at Mount Pleasant. MRS. HOKE was of the quiet, lovable type of women who have all friends and no enemies. Perhaps nobody in the township was more widely known. All of the six children born to MR. and MRS. HOKE are living. They are: MRS. ELMER E. BERG, MRS. Elmer Whetsel and MRS..RICE B FREED of Mount Pleasant, MRS. CLARENCE E. SLONECKER of Pittsburg, MISS MARY HOKE at home with her mother and HOMER S. HOKE, who lives in an adjoining farm. MRS. MARIA ESHELMAN of Wichita, Kan., is a sister, the last of the family.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 o’clock at the home, with, Rev. Paul T. Stone?ifer, pastor of the reformed Church at Mount Pleasant, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlick Cemetery.
