Wins Spelling Event
Ellis Bock of the High Hill School won the annual eigth grade spelling contest in Point Marion High School Auditorium last night(.Evelyn Blaney, Virginia Graham, Jeannette Campbell, Leland Blaney and Salvadore Gasbarre were the five other winners.)
Leland E. Blaney, 92, of Uniontown, Pa., died Monday, December 11, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born November 9, 1914, in Gans, Pa., the son of the late George W. Blaney and Perie Burchinal Blaney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Helen P. Hartman Blaney in 1997, three brothers, Kenneth, Quentin and Lloyd Blaney and five sisters, Anna Marie Blaney, Jean Crowe, Pearle Phillips, Evelyn Conn and Mildred Myers.
Leland was a veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy.
He was employed for 39 years with United States Steel retiring from the Homestead Works. Leland was a member of Bible Baptist church of Uniontown and the United Steel Workers of America.
Surviving are his daughter, Myrna Jane Adams and husband, Thomas of Canal Winchester, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jordan Keller and Dena Adams; three sisters, Jeanette Ganoe of Point Marion, Pa., Willis Conn and Dorothy Blaney both of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to thank his caregiver, Joann Stout, his primary caregiver and dear friend, Marie Mounayar and the Fayette Home Care Hospice Team.
Private Family Services will be held in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, with the Rev. George W. McLaughlin officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.

A funeral service for Willis J. Conn, 81, of Cleveland, formerly of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Conn, a homemaker, passed away Feb. 7, 2007, at the Traditions Care Center in Cleveland. She was born March 24, 1925, in Gans, Pa., the daughter of the late George Washington and Perrie Mae (Darby) Blaney.
She married Charles Conn. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Conn of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas Conn of Cleveland; three daughters, Joyce (Art) Lukas of Newark, Ann (Ted) Shellenberger of Pasadena, Md., and Bonnie (William) Coventry of Heath; two sisters, Dorothy Gussman of Akron, and Jeanette Ganhoe of Point Marion, Pa.; one grandson, William Justin Coventry; one granddaughter, Heather Van Cleve; and one great-grandson, Dillon Van Cleve.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
